Overview
For my Minor in Education Policy capstone, I created a series of infographics that help the learner identify areas of improvement in intimate relationships and equip the learner with skills that can strengthen relationships. Each module focuses on a different topic: boundaries, insecurities, unconscious gaslighting, and neediness. These inforgraphics align with the goals of CDC's Preventing Intimate Partner Violence strategy “teach safe and healthy relationship skills” by introducing skills to recognize and resolve toxic behaviors before they worsen as well as sample dialogues that demonstrate effective communication.
The Problem
Schools often do not adequately prepare students for navigating intimate sexual or romantic relationships. As a result, teens and even young adults fall victim to unhealthy relationships. In 2018-2020, the rise in popularity of Facebook meme groups highlighted and further normalized toxicity in relationships.
The Solution
To create a set of infographics that help the reader identify areas of improvement in interpersonal relationships (specifically dating) and equip the reader with communication skills that can strengthen relationships.
Development Process
There had already been countless infographics on IPV circulating online, yet the problem with many of these infographics is that they fail to include skill-building components that integrate specific training to modify behavior and develop competencies. Therefore, I decided that each infographic must contain a "let's practice" portion to put the learner into these conversations. The length of each set of infographics is 10 or fewer square pages so that 1) each set fits into one instagram post and 2) to keep content short and reader engaged. Readers are invited to explore the topic more in depth through articles provided at the end of each module.
All infographics can be found on my instagram portfolio @ri.deng and the Subtle Asian Dating facebook group.
