Pouring I (2017)
She can barely contain her joy and excitement. Pink flowers of love overflowing from the nest she’s built to protect the precious relationship
Pouring II (2019)
Two years of love and effort, and yet it’s all dried up. There’s no more. She used the last bit of energy to escape, and alas, she’s free.
The 2019 piece depicts the escapade of strands of wheat from their enclosure. In contrast to 2017’s Pouring, the enclosure is no longer a sacred nest. Rather, it is a grey box. The pieces falling out are no longer bits of happiness to be shared; they are dried up emotions frantically escaping from their cage.
The 2019 piece was initially meant to be a bundle of wheat, symbolizing how bond makes individuals stronger. However, the braided wheat appeared to be trapped and lifeless tied into a bundle. Midway through the project, I decided to let them go and escape from whatever had been holding them back.
