Overview

I created a series of staff onboarding modules totaling about 60 hours of coursework for All Aboard English Academy in 2020 to streamline and standardize the new onboarding process across four school branches. Each module is designed to be taken by the learner on their own with minimal supervision. All modules are created with an ESL adult learner in mind.

The Problem

In 2020, directors at the academy were set the expand the academy in the next few years, yet they did not have standard work set for the administrative team across its three branches. As the newest admin assistant at the time, I provided feedback about my training period. Specifically, I felt that there was inadequate in-depth training, and I did not feel prepared for many situations.

The Solution

To ensure that future and existing administrative assistants are held to the same standards and trained accordingly, I was tasked with creating an onboarding curriculum for adminstrative assistants at the academy. I identified the lack of standard work and scenario based training to be the root cause of a new admin assistant's unpreparedness. Therefore it was important to standardize the work through training.

Development Process

To set identify standard work for admin assistants, I surveyed SMEs and internal stakeholders across the academy including senior admin assistants, branch directors, and teachers. The directors of the academy had a list of areas within administration they felt would be appropriate to tackle, and I matched the standard work to each area to create module topics (and consequently was able to outline the curriculum). Each module was written with guidance from SMEs and from personal experience as an admin assistant. The series was created on Google Slides. Topics, objectives, learning material, and activities were all written by myself. Slides were also created by myself.
